View from Kabul from one of the several hills. The town is literrally surrounded by mountains. This is taken from the place where the kite runners gather during winter holidays.
Like in the book, hundreds on kids gather over winter in kabul to run their kites. Unfortunately it was impossible to take an overall picture of the scene, the kites are simply flying too high to be catch on a picture. But believe me it was really stunning.
Bouchkachi in Kabul
Bouchkachi: 4 teams of ridders compete against each other. Instead of a ball, they use a dead goat. We could not see the entire game. Women are not allowed and we could feel that the atmosphere was not very safe.
One of the days during Eid we went to a bazar just outside the city centre. There was a lot of amusing stuff, like fabrics with the funniest patterns and plastic clocks to hang on the wall in the shape of pink hearts. There was also food. These spices for example.
We had a sheep at the office, which we killed (halal) during eid. It was chopped into small pieces and packed in plastic bags. One third was given to the poor people, one third was distributed among the family members and the last part was kept for the staff.
If you don't know where to have your wedding, here is an option! There is street packed with wedding halls. It is very kitchy, with palm trees and neon lights all over.
For christmas' eve we vent to a friend's house for drinks. They had this nice christmas tree - the closest you can get to a real christmas in Kabul...

Some pictures we took on our way to work when it was still sunny.
Today we actually had a lot of snow.

A beggar (a lady) sitting on the front door of our office. Many disable and poor people hang out in front of Awaz as there is an organisation, on the other side of the street taking care of them.
Kids playing with colourful balloons in the streets (our street) of Kabul. A few meters ahead, a funeral is taking place.
This picture was taken on our way back to Kabul. About an hundred km north from the capital. Enjoy the scenery!
Last saturday we went to this very nice place one hour north from Kabul. It was the summerhouse of Hamidas. We had a nice lunch sitting on the terrace in the sun. The nature was stunning!!
